What religion says...
Long, long ago, humans, elves, animals and plants were the only inhabitants of Acathor. They were happy, good, and peaceful. And everything was fine and dandy until one day the Gods got bored of so much goodness and decided to screw up everything and bring demons to the surface.
These creatures were evil, and their only wish was to corrupt the pure creatures. And during centuries they brought chaos to the world and so did their descendants, but then the Gods decided they were bored of evilness, and so they sent holy warriors to face the demons an send them back to Hell. But they failed, and now the descendants of demons and the pure creatures wander through the earth, while the holy warriors await their turn to strike...
But until then, no worries! That is what Inquisition is for! They'll chase, prison, torture, kill and experiment with any creature marked as demons, which comes to be... Pratically everything which isn't a human or an elf, and/or people showing disrespect towards the holy traditions. And they're everywhere so, there's no escape to Inquistion.

GODS
Elemental Gods:
Gunaç: He who controls the sun. Innofensive snake adored by humans, go!
Zravak: Hairy airy winged lion guy. He was the one who created angels following Tion's orders. He is infamously known for his cruelty when angered. Elves worship him.
Teste: An armadillo-scorpion that controls the planet and the life on it. He is Zravak's enemy. God of the dwarves, fairies, trolls, gnomes, etc. Pretty much every one in De'Tera.
Eigua: God of knowledge that controls water as well. Sirens and tritons are his people. Also, he's in the flag of the Darklands, and is highly worshipped by the royal family (you'd expect them adoring Banulu but no, lol).

Banulu: he is the Moon dragon god and also he was the one the other gods asked to create demons. No one really has any appreciation for him. Except demons, that's it.
Tion: armed snake, goddess of balance. She was the one who decided to bring angels to Acathor so balance could be restored. A group of armored humans fight to follow her lessons. Inquisi-TION rings a bell?
Nori Karak (N'Karak by pirates): tricky god that likes to fool basically everything that moves, but protects pirates. Maybe. Possibly. Some times. Not really.

Ba'Tera is the place where Darklands is, and most of the story takes place. It also has the inquisition, whee. Up'Tera's just full of Frenchglish speaking elves.
